What is Alnico?

lAlnico is an alloy containing Aluminium (Al), Nickel (Ni), Cobalt (Co) hence named Alnico.  

lAlnico alloys make strong permanent magnets, and can be magnetized to produce strong magnetic fields. 

lAlnico magnets are characterised by excellent temperature stability, high residual induction and high energies.

lThey are manufactured by either  casting or sintering process.

lCast magnets can be manufactured in complex shapes, such as horseshoes, not possible with other magnet materials. 

lSintered Alnicos offer slightly lower magnetic properties but better mechanical characteristics than cast Alnicos.

lCast Alnico 5 is the most commonly used of all the cast Alnicos. This material is used extensively in rotating machinery, meters, instruments, sensing devices, and holding applications, to name a few.
